Simon Lelieveldt (1965) is a business engineer with extensive experience as a banker, central banker and supervisor. He combines a professional view on todays payments and banking world with a historic perspective on the development of the financial sector. In his role as Head of the Department on Supervision and Financial Markets, he was closely involved in important developments in payments, banking and supervision, such as the development of SEPA and the financial crisis. We have asked Simon Lelieveldt to be our guest lecturer on e-Payments in the Master Programme: IP, Media and ICT-Law.In a well-prepared 2,5 hour evening class he skilfully combined humour, positive energy and interaction to sketch the relevant EU legislation in the area of payments. He also covered the business and political background in an inspiring and captivating way. His discussion on bitcoin and its future regulatory issues was the icing on the cake.It was a pleasure to have Simon Lelieveldt as our guest and we will welcome him back any time.
"Simon Lelieveldt took up the role as chairman of the first day of our EFMA Retail Payments Week on the 25th of September of 2013.I have come to appreciate his style as professional with a distinct personal touch. In particular the Louis Armstrong/Ella Fitzgerald song ‘Dream a little dream’ that he used to set the mood for the conference was the start of a lively session. The feedback of participants mirrors our appreciation for his work. With a grade of 3,43 out of 4, he scored really well with one of the participants briefly remarking ‘Excellent’.We have enjoyed working with him and look forward to meeting again in the future."
"As co-chair of the organising committee of the 2nd International Conference on Complementary Currency systems, I am pleased to confirm that Simon Lelieveldt has played a crucial role in the successful completion of the event.During the Policymakers’ day, on 21st June 2013, Simon has acted as a facilitator in the panel “The control of new types of e-money by financial regulators” and as a speaker in the session “Financial Regulation & Complementary Currencies”.Both panels have seen the presence of international experts and the emergence of several challenging debates. With his knowledge and expertise, Simon managed to make the best out of those sessions. His excellent communication skills, along with his leadership have made Simon a true asset to the event.I am therefore convinced he would make a great contribution to any conference, both as a speaker and as a facilitator. "
"Simon with his ample knowledge of and experience in the field of payment systems, skillfully explained BitCoin and the differences between the different forms of Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology in under an hour. Touching the inner workings, history and potential of these techniques for the coming years he gave a fascinating and wide view, still, however, thoroughly focusing on the subject. The tone was light and the opportunity for discussion ample. We strongly recommend Simon!"
"Your well-illustrated presentation on the evolution of the financial center of Amsterdam since the 'gouden eeuw' took us back to the rich history of the Netherlands and its commerce and finance. The portrait you painted of the constant renewal of the finance players - from cashiers to banks, from banks to financial markets, from financial markets back to banks - was the ideal introduction to the subject of our meeting: the plans that are now in the making by the European Commission to create a Capital Markets Union. The projected shift from banking to market financing that is underway indeed reflects the flow of history that you explained so brilliantly."
