The Rhythm of Culture

A life unfolds through decisive moments. For me, these milestones include my doctorate at the Sorbonne, my first documentary for French Public Radio, the publication of my first book, and the broadcast of my first television program. Equally formative, however, are the encounters that illuminate one’s path—the artists, thinkers, and creators whose journeys become guiding constellations.

“A life unfolds through decisive moments. I have long been drawn to great figures who transcend their era, remain faithful to their vision and possess the courage to move forward. What fascinates me is the process by which a person becomes who they are, how a singular destiny takes shape and how it enters the broader human story. Such destinies often acquire a symbolic dimension: they crystallize into enduring legends that outlive their time and continue to inspire.

In every age, artists and intellectuals fulfill an essential role. They preserve a society’s capacity to reflect, to feel deeply, and to imagine possibilities. By transforming disorder into coherence and confusion into meaning, they shape shared narratives through which communities interpret their experience and envision their future. Culture thus becomes one of the fundamental forces structuring collective consciousness and sustaining a society’s intellectual and moral vitality.

All my projects—books and interviews in Greece and France, cultural initiatives in Paris, documentaries for French public radio, and my television Book Club on Greek Public Television (ERT)—stem from a deep admiration for human civilization. Each endeavor is conceived as a bridge: linking disciplines, languages, and temporalities, connecting heritage with contemporary thought and ensuring the transmission of cultural memory.

My perspective is rooted in an interdisciplinary and comparative approach. Through comparative literature, I gained insight into how texts, artworks, and historical moments resonate across languages, disciplines, and civilizations. Literature converses with philosophy; philosophy intersects with history; history resonates within the arts. Meaning arises through these correspondences. In this sense, mythology is not a relic of the past but a living framework of meaning, an enduring structure through which civilizations express their values, fears, aspirations, and vision of humanity.

Living and working between France and Greece has further shaped my outlook. Moving between languages has shown me that each carries its own memory, cadence, and vision of the world. To inhabit more than one linguistic space enriches perspective and deepens appreciation for the diversity of cultural narratives that shape our understanding of the world.

For me, rigorous study and diligent preparation are essential to conveying a subject with clarity and depth. I first seek to apprehend its nuances thoroughly, for only then can a genuine relationship of trust emerge—both with the person in dialogue and with the audience. Whether preparing a public conversation, writing an essay, producing a documentary, or conducting an interview, I strive to create a work with its own coherence, rhythm, and equilibrium—capable of engaging, inspiring, and moving those who encounter it. My aim is not merely to explain a subject, but to make it resonate—to reveal its human dimension and its inherent beauty.

At the heart of my vision lies culture in its broadest expression: literature, the arts, philosophical thought, and every manifestation of human creativity. Engaging with a work—be it a book, a musical composition, a film, a painting, or an essay—is an affirmation of consciousness and time. It is a gift offered both to ourselves and to others. The arts enter into dialogue with our lives; they sharpen perception, refine sensibility, and illuminate the world’s complexity. They form our moral and spiritual compass, our inner cartography. By cultivating awareness of different cultures and perspectives, they guide us toward a deeper understanding of ourselves and others, inviting us to participate fully in the ongoing civilizational narrative to which we all belong. Through all my work, I seek to share this conviction: culture enlarges our inner horizon and sustains our connection to the living continuity of human experience.”
