Roelf de Boer (1949) was Minister of Transport and Water Management in the Balkenende I cabinet in the Netherlands. In October 2002, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister. De Boer worked at the Royal Nedlloyd Group in West Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the Netherlands (Rotterdam and Amsterdam) (1972-1984). He then served as director of the Furness Shipping Agency Company in Rotterdam and managing director of Lehnkering Logistics in Rotterdam/Barendrecht. He successfully reorganized the company in 1989.
Roelf de Boer became President-Director of European Waterways Transport Holding in Zwijndrecht in 1999, a subsidiary of RAG Coal International in Essen, Germany. Three years later, he became chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in Rotterdam. He was appointed a member of the federative board of the Royal Dutch Transport (KNV) in 2004 and later that year became the general chairman. He is the chairman of Deltalinqs, the association of port entrepreneurs.
His current roles include: member of the general council and chairman of the International Advisory Board of the Economic Development Board Rotterdam (EDBR); member of the Advisory Board of Global Conference Organisers (GCO), Sliedrecht; member of the International Scientific Committee of Policy Research Corporation, Antwerp; member of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation against Financial and Economic Crime in the Netherlands; chairman of Deltalinqs; chairman of the Rotterdam Port Promotion Council (RPPC); member of the Advisory Board of ING Bank, Rotterdam; and chairman of Sea Alarm (oiled Wildlife Response), Brussels.
