Paul Jorion holds the chair of ‘Stewardship of Finance’ at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is also a columnist for Le Monde-Économie and is part of the think tank on positive economics led by Jacques Attali. He holds a degree in sociology and social anthropology (PhD in Social Sciences from the Université Libre de Bruxelles). He has taught at the universities of Brussels, Cambridge, Paris VIII, and the University of California, Irvine. He has also been a United Nations official (FAO), participating in development projects in Africa.
Paul JorION worked from 1998 to 2007 in the American banking sector as a pricing specialist. He had previously been a trader in the futures market at a French bank. He published a book in English regarding the repercussions for stock markets of the bankruptcy of Enron: Investing in a Post-Enron World (McGraw-Hill 2003). He has published La crise du capitalisme américain (La Découverte 2007; Le Croquant 2009), L’implosion. La finance contre l’économie: ce que révèle et annonce ‘la crise des subprimes’ (Fayard 2008), La crise. Des subprimes au séisme financier planétaire (Fayard 2008), L’argent, mode d’emploi (Fayard 2009), Comment la vérité et la réalité furent inventées (Gallimard 2009), Le prix (Le Croquant 2010), Le capitalisme à l’agonie (Fayard 2011), and La guerre civile numérique (Textuel 2011).
His most recent works are Misère de la pensée économique (Fayard 2012) and La survie de l’espèce (Futuropolis/Arte 2012) with Grégory Maklès.
