Rita Verdonk is passionate, dedicated, and experienced. She is socially engaged and knowledgeable in many areas, such as leadership, public order, safety, integration, entrepreneurship, and conflict management. Rita is known for her quick and sharp analysis of situations, speakers, participants, and their viewpoints – with humor and directness, of course, never lacking. She is an experienced moderator and a gifted speaker.
Verdonk graduated as a sociologist from Radboud University Nijmegen. After her studies, she translated her academic knowledge into action and has always worked in leadership positions, both in the private sector and in government. Starting as the deputy director of the Detention Center in Scheveningen, she developed in roles such as, among others, board member of the Penitentiary Institution De Schie in Rotterdam, several executive positions at the Ministry of Justice, Director of State Security at the Domestic Security Service, and manager of Public Order and Safety at KPMG.
After these experiences, she made a transition to politics, where as a minister in the Balkenende II and III cabinets, she left a still visible footprint on Immigration and Integration policy. In 2005 and 2007, Rita Verdonk was named Politician of the Year. Currently, Verdonk is not affiliated with any political party. This allows her to engage in independent debate across all parties in the political spectrum.
“Decisiveness and insight,” these are the qualities that characterize Rita. Let her speak about the topics close to her heart, and she takes flight. Rita can speak endlessly engagingly about her many experiences in the political arena, entrepreneurship, but certainly also about her experiences as a Prison Director. Rita knows exactly when to let whom speak or when she needs to clarify and elaborate on statements. Through her years of debate experience, she senses an audience and knows where the needs lie. Change is the common thread throughout Rita’s life. It is never too late to take the leap into something new, something you have never done before. Her message is therefore: only those who are open to change can achieve improvements!
