Dr. Bernard Bouwman studied History, Philosophy and International Relations at the universities of Utrecht, Paris and Washington. He then moved on to the University of Oxford, where he was awarded his Ph.D. Dr. Bouwman has lived in Istanbul for many years.

He worked there as Turkey correspondent for NRC Handelsblad, a Dutch quality newspaper, and state broadcaster NOS. Dr. Bouwman had his own radio show in Istanbul.
