MichèleGay is a stylist of taste, operating at the crossroads of gastronomy and perfume, fashion and cuisine. Inspired by the words of Gabrielle Chanel, “pour être irremplaçable, il faut être différent,” Michèle Gay founded her company, Saveur & Création, in 1999, and seven years later, developed the concept of culinary perfumery. With culinary perfumes, the rituals of scenting are no longer restricted to the body. Michèle Gay’s creations free us to expand the art of scenting to the world of gastronomy – awakening our senses, adding dimension and depth to what we eat and drink, and expanding our palette of taste. As we scent our foods, we are encouraged to move beyond a binary of ‘savory’ or ‘sweet’ to more profound interpretations of taste.
A member of the Société Française des Parfumeurs, Michèle Gay is an artisan of essences and the senses. From her artist’s studio, she work with a repertoire of 150 natural essences and oils, such as geranium, rose, jasmine, tuberose, ylang ylang, sandalwood, incense, vetiver and myrrh. Michèle weaves her essences together, like various threads in a tapestry, to express her unique vision – a marriage of cuisine and perfumery. Allowing contrasts and similarities to echo off of each other, she composes harmonies of scent and taste – one-of-a-kind perfumed creations that can be enjoyed at the table, as a powder sprinkled on dishes, a perfumed butter, a perfumed petit-beurre, or a perfumed tea. She has collaborated with Chanel, Thierry Mugler, Bulgari, and others to create signature perfumed creations.
Vibrant and sophisticated, creative and passionate, Michèle’s elegant and engaging presentations take people on a guided olfactory and gustatory journey through the universe of culinary perfumes. Participants are encouraged to taste and smell, imagine and learn, as they revisit classical and historical French perfumery and gastronomy through the lens of culinary perfumery. Described by those who have seen her presentations as “étonnant,” “appétissant, “un immense plaisir,” et “une véritable découverte,” Michèle Gay’s presentations will inspire creativity, allowing each of us to discover unique, previously-hidden worlds of the senses.
