Carlos Buesa was born in Zaragoza in 1961. He studied Biological Sciences at the Universitat de Barcelona and he has a PhD in Biochemistry from the same university. He has worked in several renowned investigation centers, like Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo del Consejo Superior de Investigación y Desarrollo del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CID-CSIC) in Barcelona, the University of Gante (Belgium) and at the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology (VIB) also in Belgium. He has also been working as a researcher for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Farmacy Faculty at the Universitat de Barcelona. Additionally, he also has a training in Philosophy and in Business Abilities.
In 2000, Carlos founded Genomics, together with his researcher colleague Tamara Maes Oryzon. Genomics is one of the Spanish biotech companies which had been ever growing since the beginnning. Carlos Buesa is the CEO and also President of the Board. Because of Oryzon, he has been counselor and member of different boards and councils as much in the public or the private sector. He was the first President of the Catalan Association of Biotech Companies – CataloniaBIO – and is currently the Vice-president. Carlos is also s member of Bio-Regió de Catalunya which, is part of Asociación Española de Bioquímica (Spanish Biochemistry Association) and collaborates with different institutions like CECOT (trade association), Fundación Genoma España, FECYT, Fundación Gaspar Casal and many others.
Carlos Buesa is the author of thirty international scientific papers and an experienced speaker for national and international conferences and forums.
