1967-1973 student of St.Petersburg Electrotechnical Univercity

1973-1992 – scientist and from 1983 senior scientist at the laboratory of Radiophysics of Arctic & Antarctic Research Institute

1983- awarded a Candidate of Physics and Mathematics Science (=PhD)

1992-1998 – senior scientist of Arctic & Antarctic Museum

Since 1994 – Head of Polar Comission of the Russian Geographical society.

1998 – Director of Museum

FIELD EXPERIENCE

1973- 1987 was a member of 4 Anatarctic Expeditions and 6 Arctic Expeditions as PI in Remote Sounding of snow and ice thickness

1988- as a member of International Transantarctica Expedition crossed the Greenland from south to north by dogs and ski

1989-90 crossed Antarctica on ski with International team from Antarctic Peninsula via South Pole to Mirnyy base. The team did over 4000 miles for 7 months

1992-1994 – took part as co- leader in three ski expeditions within NWT territories of Canada

1995 crossed the Arctic Ocean with the International team from Siberian Coast to Ellesmere Island (Canada) via the North Pole

1997- 2010 – lead 20 ski expedition to the North Pole from 89 North

1997-2010- took part as a lecturer and expedition leader at 25 cruises to the North Pole with Nuclear icebreakers “Sovietskiy Soiuz” , “Yamal” and “50 let Pobedy”

Since 1972 has published over 25 articles dedicated to remote sounding of Glaciers and sea ice

Author of five books:

• “Seven months of infinity”,
• “The Greenland’s meridian”,
• “NWT”,
• “Every one of us has his own Pole-poems”,
• “On the way to Ellesmere”.
