Prof. dr. Rob de Wijk is an expert on security issues and European integration. His opinion is highly valued whenever there is a crisis. He looks at any situation from an unique angle. Where many experts focus on conflict prevention and the establishment of a peace process, De Wijk addresses the crisis itself. He considers feasible solutions, not what the politicians wish for. His analysis is always easy to comprehend. The same applies to his vision on European cooperation. De Wijk addresses the core of any issue and stimulates debate.
He is professor of International Relations and Strategic Studies and an international consultant. Until 1998 he worked for the Dutch ministry of Defense, where he developed plans for the reorganisation and the reduction of the Netherlands armed forces after the Cold War. De Wijk wrote numerous books. Topics include the war in Kosovo, the future of European cooperation and Muslim terrorists.
Early 2007, Rob de Wijk left the Institute for Internationale Relations Clingendael to found, together with TNO, a new research institute, The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS). The new institute is developed in coherence with the initiatives to make The Hague a city of piece, safety and justice. The HCCS cooperates with other knowledge centres in its field
