Josep Miró is an anthropologist and is currently working as the director of Strategy and Innovation for the Municipality of Barcelona. His thesis, entitled “Popular Participation by Law: Advancing State Authority in Mizque, Bolivia” focused on development anthropology, political economy, state-civil society relations, democratization, peasant studies, indigenous peoples, environmental issues, bilingual intercultural education, and the Latin America region.
Besides his specialisation in anthropology, Josep Miró also holds a Master degree in International Administration, focused on development administration and intercultural management and a Bachelor degree in English Language.
Thanks to all of these studies, he is the founding member of UpSocial, a community of social entrepreneurs in Barcelona. He is also member of the American Anthropological Association (AAA), the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) and the Association of International Consultants (AIC).
Josep Miró has 20 years of executive management experience, includingfield operations, training, coaching and supervision of staff, and legal representation. He also has an international development trajectory in social innovation, education, children’s rights, health, indigenous groups, rural development, and decentralization projects. Furthermore, Josep has been an international consultant in Argentina, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Switzerland and USA.
