Prof. dr. Herman de Dijn is a full professor at the Higher Institute of Philosophy, a faculty of the Catholic University Leuven, Belgium, where he researches and teaches the history of philosophy. His main publications are 'Spinoza' and 'The Way to Wisdom'. Prof. de Dijn has written many essays on cultural and philosophical topics, for example 'How to survive freedom?', 'Taboos, monsters and lotteries; ethics in late-modern times', 'Modernité et tradition' and recently 'Religion in the 21st century: a small manual for advocates and adversaries'. The works of authors like Ludwig Wittgenstein, Michael Oakeshott, Josef Pieper, G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis and Roger Scruton have aroused his interest in cultural philosophy. Prof. de Dijn is a member of the Royal Belgian Academy for Sciences and Arts and holder of the Spinoza Chair at the University of Amsterdam (2007). He was chairman of the International Society 'Het Spinozahuis' and holder of the Francqui Chair in Louvain-la-Neuve (2001). Prof. de Dijn is commended for his philosophical vision on the 21st century and modern times.
