Jean-Claude Trichet is undoubtedly one of the most powerful figures in the European and global economy. President of the all-powerful European Central Bank until November 1, 2011, this graduate of the ENA directed the interest rate policy of the ECB. About Jean-Claude Trichet

After studying engineering in the mid-1960s, graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Nancy, he shifted to the field of administration by graduating from the Institute of Political Studies of Paris in 1966. For two years, he dedicated himself to his passion by working as an engineer in the private sector. But in 1968, he decided to stop his career and resumed his studies at the ENA, obtaining his diploma in 1971. He then became Inspector of Finances.

His career is then a long series of ministerial missions and discreet offices. He thus came under the wing of René Monory, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, and Edouard Balladur. In 1993, he was discovered by the general public by becoming Governor of the former Bank of France. When the European Central Bank was created in 1998, he stepped back to make way for Wim Duisenberg. Europe decided on the alternation of the presidency for the early steps of the ECB. Jean-Claude Trichet was more than expected to take over from Wim Duisenberg at the end of his term.

2003 marked a new leap in Jean-Claude Trichet’s career as he became the second president of the European Central Bank. He took the helm of the central bank of the European Union. He is an advocate of controlling inflation. One of the main roles of the ECB is indeed to curb inflation, and not the growth of the economy, unlike the FED, the American central bank. Jean-Claude Trichet completed his term and left his seat on November 1, 2011, to the Italian Mario Draghi.

Throughout his long career, Jean-Claude Trichet has received numerous awards and distinctions, including: Commander of the National Order of the Legion of Honor, Officer of the National Order of Merit, and many other honors around the world (notably in Germany, the Netherlands, and Portugal).
