About Général (r) Vincent Desportes

After an operational career that led him to hold multiple commands, Vincent Desportes shifted towards higher education, strategic thinking, and international affairs. In this context, he notably served in the United States between 1998 and 2003. After two years within the US Army, from which he graduated from the War College, he was a Military Attaché at the French Embassy in Washington. Upon returning to France, he was appointed Defense Advisor to the Secretary General of National Defense before taking the helm of the Forces Employment Doctrine Center; for three years, he was responsible for developing strategies and lessons learned from the army. From 2008 to 2010, he led the War School, the strategic training institute for the armed forces. An engineer, doctor in history, and holder of advanced degrees in business administration and sociology, Vincent Desportes has also invested in the field of strategic thinking and leadership. He has published numerous works on strategy and praxeology, as well as multiple contributions to French and foreign journals. An international speaker, he has been delivering lectures in France and abroad for about ten years on the themes of strategy and leadership. A recognized specialist in strategic and military affairs, he regularly participates in major radio and television debates. Since 1999, he has been the director of the “Strategies and Doctrines” collection at Economica, and he is also a strategic advisor to the president of IFRI, a member of the scientific council of the High Council for Training and Strategic Research. An Associate Professor at Sciences Po Paris, he also teaches strategy at several prestigious schools, including HEC, and works with major companies.
