About Yann Algan

Doctor in economics in 2002, Yann Algan went as a post-doctoral researcher to the University of California San Diego. Assistant professor at the University of Paris 1-Sorbonne, he became a professor and taught at the Paris School of Economics (2006-2008). Visiting professor at MIT (2007) and then at Harvard (2008), he joined the economics department of Sciences Po in 2008, where he is responsible for the master’s program in economics. He is also a member of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council.

In 2009, Yann Algan received the Best Young Economist Award in France and obtained a European research grant ERC Starting Grant for his project titled “Trust” (2010-2014).

His work mainly focuses on the role of trust and cooperation in understanding individual economic behaviors, the economic and social performance of companies, growth, and well-being. His research also evaluates management policies, public policies, and economic policies.

Yann Algan is co-author with Pierre Cahuc and André Zylberberg of two works:

– “La société de défiance. Comment le modèle social français s’autodétruit”, published in 2007 by ENS Rue d’Ulm. Winner of the Best Essay Award 2007 (Lire-RTL-LCI) and the Best Economics Book Award 2008.

– “La fabrique de la défiance… et comment s’en sortir”, published in 2012 by Albin Michel.
