Sophie Backer began her career as a journalist at the age of 20, at a time when private radio stations were shaking up the French media landscape. In 1985, she joined Radio France Internationale where, after a few international reports (Mali, Sri Lanka), she became a presenter of news bulletins and information programs, conducting live interviews with guests.
In the 1990s, as deputy editor-in-chief, Sophie Backer supported a new transformation by participating in the establishment of the continuous news channel at RFI. In the specific context of this international radio station, she developed a solid geopolitical expertise on all major issues: the Near and Middle East, Africa, Asia, and emerging countries.
In the 2000s, another transformation, this time technological: she was there! Sophie Backer became the Editorial Chief Reference for the digitization of RFI’s broadcasts. In this capacity, she participated in the change management process and took on the human management dimension of a large press company, one of the most important in Europe.
Returning to the air in 2004, Sophie Backer became a specialist in political interviews and led the Politics and Society department of RFI for six years while presenting a weekly live political program: “Sur un air de campagne”.
In 2010, Sophie Backer decided to leverage her expertise in interviews and created the company Sophie Backer Conseil, specializing in supporting leaders and elected officials in their media appearances, both in front of the camera and off media.
In parallel to her public speaking expertise, Sophie Backer developed a specific methodology on the speech strategy of leaders (book in progress).
Her reflection on the impact of weak signals in the field of information and communication is aimed at companies that view the future as an opportunity and support their managers in a quality of life at work approach.
