Many professionals have an abundance of knowledge. They know what they want to say. And yet it doesn’t resonate. Not in meetings, not on stage, not in a pitch.
Eva Brouwer explains why. And what can be done about it.
As a historian, she sees what others miss: rhetoric has existed for two and a half thousand years, but the system we use has never been complete. The classical three pillars, Ethos (strength), Pathos (emotion), and Logos (structure), miss a fourth: Eros, or connection. And that’s exactly where things go wrong in practice.
Eva developed her own system with four pillars that she applies in keynotes about speaking, leadership, and sales. She does this in a way that no one else does: as a historian, she literally steps into her time machine. With AI-created images, she takes her audience to a historical context that turns out to be surprisingly relevant.
• Fryslân Werkt received the Frisian freedom struggle from 1100
• DPG Media Amsterdam as the epicenter of the printing press around 1650
• Oost NL the medieval Hanseatic cities
Each organization receives its own historical mirror that immediately engages the audience and anchors the theme of the day.
Eva began her career as a television presenter at the regional broadcaster, where she experienced a blackout live on TV and was taken off the air. She fought her way back, eventually becoming a news anchor, but realized her true passion lay in helping others tell their stories. She became a moderator, presentation trainer, and later fully committed to the speaking profession.
Director Marie-Leontine de Graaf of Speakers Academy describes her as one of the most recognizable speakers in the Netherlands with the strongest personal brand. She has shared the stage for several years with behavioral psychologist Robert Cialdini and speaks exclusively through Speakers Academy.
She is the author of three books, one of which reached the number one position on Managementboek, and is currently working on her fourth book about the four pillars of persuasive speaking.
