About Darryl Amankwah

Darryl Amankwah is a speaker, moderator, and elected representative from Amsterdam-Zuidoost. He operates at the intersection of leadership, youth influence, equal opportunities, and social innovation. In his work, he connects worlds that too often only view each other from a distance: youth and policymakers, policy and everyday life, ambition and real access to opportunities.

His development didn’t start from an obvious position at the table, but from the conviction that a voice only gains meaning when used for more than oneself. As a young presenter and moderator, he led discussions on education, technology, mental health, racism, philanthropy, and the future of cities. He did this while working with young people, social organizations, public institutions, professionals, and decision-makers. Whether he’s on stage, leading a panel, interviewing a policymaker, or working with students, Darryl makes complex topics personal, keeps conversations sharp, and ensures that people truly feel seen and heard.

A core principle in his work is that every person has value, but that value is not always visible to themselves or recognized by their surroundings. Darryl wants to help people rediscover their own strength, values, and responsibility. He believes leadership isn’t reserved for directors, politicians, or people with a formal title. Everyone is a leader because everyone influences others through their choices, words, and behavior. The real question is not whether you have impact, but what kind of impact you decide to make. In addition to his work on stage, Darryl is a member of the district committee in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. In that role, he sees up close what happens when systems and people’s daily life worlds don’t align well. This gives depth to his contributions: he speaks not only theoretically about youth participation, leadership, and equal opportunities, but from practical experience, public responsibility, and active involvement in the city.

Additionally, he is the initiator of Huis van Excellentie, a platform that brings together talent, dreams, partners, financing, and projects, with Amsterdam-Zuidoost as a starting point. The central idea is: “From latent power to organized excellence.” His mission is not only to tell people they have talent but also to help build structures in which that talent can truly grow.

1. Own your impact

Leadership doesn’t start with a title, role, or formal position. Everyone influences the people and environment around them with their words, choices, and behavior, often without being fully aware of it. Darryl encourages participants to reflect on their personal values, responsibility, and the influence they exert every day. What do you leave behind in a room, what do you pass on to others, and what choices do you make when no one is watching? Participants discover how they can consciously direct their behavior and use their position to initiate something positive. The central question isn’t whether you make an impact, but what kind of impact you choose to make.
2. Generations that strengthen each other

Multiple generations are working together in the same organizations today, each with different experiences, expectations, and ideas about work and leadership. These differences can lead to misunderstandings, but they also offer a tremendous opportunity to learn from one another. From the perspective of a young leader, Darryl shows what happens when generations stop talking about each other and start having real conversations. How do you leverage experience without stifling innovation? And how do you give young people space without losing sight of the value of accumulated knowledge? A connecting lecture on mutual understanding, collaboration, and harnessing the power that arises when different generations truly strengthen each other.
3. Opportunities shouldn't be left to chance.

Talent is present everywhere, but the opportunities to discover, develop, and utilize that talent are not the same for everyone. Darryl shows that equal opportunities involve more than just telling people to believe in themselves: organizations, education systems, employers, governments, and the systems we’ve built together also determine the space people get to grow. In this lecture, he challenges participants to rethink talent, access, and responsibility. What invisible barriers hold people back, who naturally gets a chance, and who has to continually prove themselves?
