About
Tim Schuijt
Tim Schuijt is the largest travel content creator in the Netherlands and known for his immersive documentaries that make unknown worlds accessible to a broad audience. He broke through with a 13-month hitchhiking journey from the Netherlands to Hong Kong, crossing more than 20 countries. Along the way, he encountered Nubans in the Sudanese desert, folk religions in India, and many more worlds that are rarely captured on film.
What started as an adventure grew into a conscious mission: to create impactful stories and seek connection in a divided world. He hitchhiked across America without money to capture the election struggle up close. He also dives into the extreme subcultures of the Netherlands: from drug-addicted urban nomads to the Muslims living in the Bible Belt. The common thread in everything he does is to show that we can connect with everyone, especially in times of polarization.
Today, Tim inspires people through his documentaries, writing a book, and live lectures. In his presentations, he takes the audience on the most intense adventures he has experienced, including stories that were too personal or too intense to share online. He connects these stories to current themes such as mental well-being, connection, stepping outside your comfort zone, and much more.
His lectures are interactive: Tim actively involves the audience in the discussions, creating a shared experience. The unique combination of raw experiences, humor, and social relevance ensures that people are not only entertained but also leave the room with a fresh perspective. Because the real world begins outside your own bubble.
1. Pushing Boundaries: Physically and Mentally on the Road
During his 13-month hitchhiking journey from the Netherlands to Hong Kong, Tim was continuously challenged to push his physical and mental boundaries. From nights in freezing cold to getting lost in the desert. In this lecture, he shares how to persevere, even when everything seems against you. He explains where to find strength at moments when it all seems too much. Because now, as the world faces major problems, it is important to stand firm.
2. Connecting with Strangers
Tim reached Hong Kong thanks to the help of hundreds of strangers. He slept in the most unexpected places and dined with people who thought completely differently from him. Along the way, he discovered that true connection does not arise from similarities, but from openness and curiosity. In a time when we increasingly live in our own bubbles, this lecture shows how to make real contact, beyond differences, beyond judgement.
3. Personal Development off the Beaten Track
For thirteen months, Tim travelled the world alone. During that journey, he was confronted not only with the world around him but especially with himself. The insights he gained along the way about happiness and meaning gave his personal development a huge boost. In this lecture, Tim shares how those experiences have forever changed his outlook on life and how you too can take steps towards a life that truly suits you.
4. Adventure as a Life Philosophy
Adventure does not always mean far away or dangerous. It means seeking the unknown, even when you have no idea what it will bring you. During his hitchhiking journey to Hong Kong, Tim learned what adventure truly entails: flexibility, improvisation skills, and the art of trusting the moment itself. What do you do when you are stuck without food, without money, and without a plan, in a foreign country? In this lecture, he advocates for adventure as an attitude: being curious and daring to take risks. Because in this rapidly changing world, we often have little control.
5. The Power of Cultural Differences
From the nomads in the Sudanese desert to villagers in Turkey: all these encounters gave Tim an unfiltered view of how people live, think, and coexist. In this lecture, he shows how your worldview changes when you not only travel through other cultures but also truly live among them. How differences can sometimes clash, but it is precisely there that space arises to grow together. In this time of globalisation, it is more urgent than ever to learn how to embrace differences without losing our own values. A plea to not only see the richness of human diversity but also to celebrate it.
6. Sustainable Thinking
During his journey, Tim saw all over the world how people with almost nothing still built something: a community, a livelihood, a future. Families who had hardly anything shared everything with him. But he did not just see it; he lived it himself. Without money, without a place to sleep, and sometimes without food, he discovered what scarcity truly means. In this lecture, Tim shares his insights on sustainability: how to combat waste, develop resilience, and achieve great things with little. He shows how with creative thinking, you need less and can still achieve more.
