About Kees de Kort

Kees de Kort is a macro economist graduated in Tilburg who has been active in various roles in the financial markets for over 30 years. Starting as a researcher, he then spent years as an investment analyst and asset manager before moving more towards journalism. Since the late 1990s, he has been providing a daily column on BNR Nieuwsradio, where he follows and comments on developments in the international financial markets.

Over time, the focus of the column has shifted from corporate results and stock prices to more policy-related aspects. And from more national and regional interests to global processes. Since the outbreak of the credit crisis in 2008, the interaction between national and international policymakers, businesses, and the general public has become an increasingly regular topic.

Because Kees de Kort is often less optimistic about various proposals and expectations based on his experience and knowledge, he has gained the image of a pessimist. However, this does not detract from the fact that he has often been proven right. But for everything that De Kort is ‘negative’ about, he also has one or more alternatives. Based on this, he advises various companies and participates in events for both a broad audience and experts.

His motto is that hope and reality are not synonyms. Timely acceptance of reality offers additional opportunities and reduces risks.
