Jeffrey Spalburg creates, writes, and performs. He is a master at conveying your message in a clear and humorous way. He grew up in Twente and already has four full-length cabaret shows to his name. He was also frequently seen on the television programs Comedy Factory and Raymann Is Laat. Jeffrey Spalburg is a comedian, cabaret performer, and writer with two great loves; music and theater.
Even before his admission to the Utrecht School of the Arts, he took his first steps in the Hip-hop scene as a ‘Master Of Ceremony’. He learned the art of MCing in various (underground) rap groups. Under the name ‘Brothers Of Showbizz’, he presented various festivals for years with cabaret performer Najib Amhali. Due to their unique style of hosting, the Brothers were welcome guests at events such as Bevrijdingspop, Racism Beat It, Lowlands, and De Megafestatie. Announcing the various bands was always done with a chant or a rap, sometimes accompanied by a hefty dose of human beatboxing. The Brothers Of Showbizz signed a record deal with Columbia Records where several singles were released. The song Passie became a modest hit in 1996. After this peak, the Brothers each went their separate ways.
Jeffrey started as an actor with Made in da Shade, the pioneer in the field of urban theater in the Netherlands. Made In Da Shade has been very successful, both domestically and internationally. He also played several guest roles in Dutch television series such as SamSam, Oppassen!, Onderweg Naar Morgen, and Luifel & Luifel, as well as in the feature films Dag Juf, Tot Morgen, and Gangsterboys, together with Georgina Verbaan, Yes-R, and Beau van Erven Dorens. Regionally, he was seen in the comedy De Groote Markt 30 on RTV Oost, and internationally he played Frank Rijkaard in the award-winning film Messi.
Jeffrey creates, writes, and performs. He is one of the regular writers for the full-length shows and television productions of Jörgen Raymann. Since 2005, he has been a regular performer at the Comedy Café Amsterdam and performs there weekly as a stand-up comedian. Through his experience there, he developed his own cabaret programs. Spalburg’s first cabaret show Brommers Kiekn premiered in 2008, which he performed nearly a hundred times both in the Netherlands and Suriname. Audiences and press were unanimously enthusiastic about the story of his youth in Twente and his current life in the big city. In 2010, Spiekerboks followed, which he successfully performed in the Netherlands and Curaçao. After Spiekerboks, Jeffrey toured with Thuus in theaters. Both his programs Spiekerboks and Thuus were broadcast on television by NTR.
At the end of 2012, Jeffrey released the single Hengelo-o-o, the song from the cabaret show Thuus. In July 2013, the music video was released by popular demand, featuring a role for Jörgen Raymann. Additionally, Jasmine Sendar and cabaret performer and fellow Tukker Thijs Kemperink can be seen. Hengelo-o-o became a real summer hit, with more than a million YouTube views, a lot of media attention, and a listing in the Single Top 100. The remix of the song, titled Paramaribo-o-o, which he made together with Kenny B, followed in December 2013 and topped the charts in Suriname for eight weeks. In the Netherlands, the song also reached the number one position on the youth station FunX.
With his extensive experience as a stand-up comedian and cabaret performer, he always knows how to quickly and directly connect with his audience in a positive way, sending everyone off with a good feeling.
