About Hedy d’Ancona

Hedy d’Ancona was a lecturer in social geography and spatial planning before becoming a full-time politician. She served as State Secretary for Social Affairs and Employment, Minister of Welfare, Health and Culture, a member of the Senate for the PvdA, and the European Parliament. Additionally, she was a catalyst of the second Feminist Wave and the founder of OPZIJ.

Currently, Hedy d’Ancona is a board member of several cultural institutions, including chair of the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts and the Graphic Museum in Breda. Hedy d’Ancona writes, gives lectures and presentations, acts as a moderator, and opens exhibitions when requested.

In the past year, an award was named after her: The Hedy d’Ancona Award for Excellent Care Architecture, and she was recognized as a “master speaker” in the book published under the same title. Hedy d’Ancona is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Dutch Social Forum.

Since early 2009, d’Ancona has also been active as an ambassador for the B!NK Foundation, an organization that addresses the suffering of children in non-Western countries.

The areas of expertise of Hedy d’Ancona include: Art and Culture, Care Architecture, Emancipation and Feminism, Drug Policy, Domestic Violence, “Out of Free Will” (citizen initiative for a self-chosen end of life), Elderly issues, and various other broad societal issues.
