Guus Essers is an independent writer, speaker, and behavioral scientist. He has been studying behavior in organizations for over 30 years: leaders, teams, professionals, employees, and customer relationships. In his work as an organizational developer, he aims to make people more aware of their inevitable behavioral influence on employees, culture, and clients. By advising, training, and coaching in an inspiring and productive manner, he helps individuals, teams, and many companies to professionalize and grow through effective interventions and insights. The starting point: advising is ‘helping to think’, training is ‘helping to do’.
As a writer, Guus has published numerous essays and articles, in addition to the publication of the bestseller I Know That You Are Lying, which he co-authored with psychologist Job Boersma in 2013. The successful book has now appeared in its 7th edition and is also published as an ebook and audiobook. It is now on the ‘bookshelf’ of many thousands of readers. Soon, the revised and expanded anniversary edition of I Know That You Are Lying will be published by Haystack Publishing. The sequel is the book The Lie Theater, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
Guus is active as a speaker, advisor, and trainer. Each year, he delivers a large number of in-company lectures and seminars. A significant part of his work involves giving seminars on consultancy & governance advising in public administration, at municipalities, provinces, and the national government. In line with the lie book, he conducts dozens of seminars I Know That You Are Lying for professionals and organizations each year. More than 10,000 professionals, supervisors, and fraud investigators have participated in training sessions on fraud investigation, lie detection, the psychology of deception, and the brain of the deceiver.
He has delivered guest lectures at institutions such as Tilburg University, Utrecht University, Vrije Universiteit, Groningen University, and SPS-NIP, the Psychology Students section of the Dutch Institute of Psychologists. Guus Essers studied Dutch and Psychology at Radboud University, where he also worked after completing his master’s degree. He conducted several years of doctoral research at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at Vrije Universiteit on a study of highly educated professionals with neurodivergent & autistic traits. For about ten years, he has had his own coaching practice specializing in this area.
In addition to his work, Guus is involved in administrative activities and is active as a jazz musician.
