About Ariel Colonomos

Ariel Colonomos is a research director at CNRS. He teaches at Sciences Po and regularly at Columbia University in New York. His work focuses on international relations, ethics, and the rules of war. He has dedicated several books to this topic (Morality in International Relations; The Gamble of War). The first addresses the question of the collective responsibility of states regarding the present and past wrongdoings attributed to them. The second deals with the issue of justifying the use of force preventively and the pitfalls of accepting such a practice.

He is also interested in how scenarios and predictions for the future of international politics are developed. His latest book (in press) specifically addresses the question of the induced effects of international predictions. Ultimately, he questions what the future (its articulation) leads to and its ripple effects.

What are the consequences of believing in the maintenance of the USSR, Colonel Gaddafi, or Bashar al-Assad? How are these scenarios developed and what rules do they follow? Are we responsible for the effects they produce?

His books are translated into English. Ariel Colonomos also regularly publishes in newspapers.
