About Paul Ariès

Paul Ariès wears two hats: that of a political scientist specializing in globalization and that of an engaged citizen. A former academic, he has long been involved in the field of North/South relations, having served as President for France of the Centre-Europe-Tiers-Monde (NGO accredited within the UN Human Rights Commission) and has worked alongside the Interministerial Mission for the Fight Against Sects (MILS).

After studying the issue of childhood, author notably of the entry “The New Rights of the Child” in the Encyclopédie Universalis, he has become one of the theorists of the movement known as degrowth. He now defines himself as an “Objector of Growth in love with Well-being”.

His work focuses on new management styles, the issue of food (literary prize from the Academy of Cuisine), and the ecology of the poor versus the ecology of the rich.

He is also the organizer of numerous national and global forums on slowing down, deglobalization, the free provision of essential services, civil disobedience, and poverty in partnership with Emmaüs-Lescar-Pau (July 2012).

As a speaker within a training organization for elected officials, he directs a bimonthly publication, “Life is Ours!”, and an international theoretical journal “the Z’indigné(e)s”, in addition to being the author of about forty works.
