About Serge Moati

Serge Moati was born in Tunis in 1946. He has worn many hats, notably starting as an actor in François Truffaut’s The 400 Blows in 1959.

Serge Moati began his directing career in 1968. Since then, he has directed a large number of films across various fields – primarily fiction and documentaries, but also institutional films and feature films.

Among his latest works: “Je vous ai compris”, De Gaulle and Algeria, 1958-1962 (2010), Changing Life (docu-fiction on François Mitterrand’s rise to power, 2011), Elysée 2012, the real campaign! (2012), Legislative 2012, the real campaign! (2012).

In 1981, Serge Moati became François Mitterrand’s advisor for audiovisual matters, preparing him with Robert Badinter for the televised debate between the two rounds. Together, they developed the 21-point rule for televised debates.

From 1981 to 1985, he was appointed General Director of FR3.

His recognition by the general public dates back to 1999, the year he began hosting Ripostes on France 5, a program of political and social debates, which he continued until 2009. Between 2009 and 2011, he hosted a cinema program on the same channel. The following year, he hosted Objective Elysée and Objective Assembly on LCP, two political debate programs related to the two successive electoral events of 2012.

Since September 2011, he has been hosting a weekly political debate program on LCP, PolitiqueS.

Serge Moati is also at the helm of an audiovisual production company, Image et Compagnie, which he has been managing since 1990.

In addition to his various activities in the audiovisual sector, Serge Moati has published numerous books, the most recent being 30 Years Later (Seuil, 2011), and Latest News from Tunis (Michel Lafon, 2011).
