Dr. ir. Koert van Mensvoort is best known as an artist, technologist, and philosopher for his Next Nature philosophy, which revolves around the idea that our technological environment becomes so complex, ubiquitous, intimate, and autonomous that we begin to experience it as a nature in itself. His goal is to better understand our co-evolutionary relationship with technology and to chart a path to the future that is satisfying for humanity and our planet as a whole.
Van Mensvoort shapes his vision in all possible media. Some of his projects include the NANO Supermarket (a traveling expo disguised as a supermarket presenting the technologies of tomorrow), the Data Fountain (a water fountain connected to exchange rates via the internet), the In Vitro Meat Cookbook (exploring the meat of the future), the Fake For Real Memory Game (about the tension between reality and simulation), and the Rayfish Footwear project (about a fictional company that makes personalized shoes from genetically modified stingray leather).
Van Mensvoort lectures worldwide. He is also the director of the Next Nature Network in Amsterdam and is affiliated with TU Eindhoven.
