Josje Smeets is an enthusiastic and inspiring happiness psychologist who loves to make her audience aware that happiness is partly attainable. While psychologists have long focused on people struggling with mental issues, the positive psychologist aims to get ahead of these problems. Because, according to Josje, if you understand how happiness works in the brain and which ‘buttons’ can be pressed to enhance the feeling of happiness, this greatly helps in preventing depression, burnout, and much more. How wonderful is that?
All of Josje’s lectures are interactive, because – as she believes – only when people know how to evoke a feeling of happiness and actually experience it, will they better absorb the knowledge and later engage with it more often. Therefore, Josje alternates theory about the brain and psychology with challenging social exercises and experiments that are highly appreciated by the audience. After all, becoming happy is hard work.
Josje Smeets has over 20 years of experience in the field as a happiness psychologist. She worked for many years in mental health care, including at the Pieter Baan Center, and has also been a psychology lecturer at Maastricht University for 8 years. In 2005, she founded her own psychological consultancy, HelloBetty, but since 2018 she has focused solely on (work) happiness and positive psychology.
Josje is a speaker, theater maker, coach, trainer, and author of the book ‘Happy in 100 Days’ (2020). She works throughout the Netherlands in-house at companies to maintain the happiness level of employees by training management teams, giving (work) happiness lectures, and coaching individual employees.
Additionally, Josje enjoys writing. Her first book ‘Happy in 100 Days’ was published at the end of 2020, and she regularly blogs for various media (including WendyOnline and Bedrock Magazine). Finally, Josje frequently appears as an expert in the national press, such as RTL Nieuws, Hart van Nederland, and Dutch newspapers.
Does your event need a bit of spice? Josje brings every presentation, team day, or other events to life. With her years of experience as a psychologist, she asks critical and positive questions and inspires the audience with happiness tips and optimism.
Happiness and success guaranteed!
Starting in the fall of 2022, Josje will enter the theater with the show Happiness without Bullsh*t. She will do this together with presenter Bas Van Mulken.
