About Jean-Pierre Helfer

Jean-Pierre Helfer served as the General Director of Audencia Nantes, School of Management, from 2004 to September 2010. He was also, from 2001 to October 2009, the president of the Commission for the Evaluation of Management Training and Diplomas (CEFDG), known as the “Helfer Commission”. Since the start of the 2010 academic year, he has resumed his activities as a university professor at Paris 1 and has become, since May 2011, a “special advisor” for research at EDC.

He obtained a master’s degree in economics in 1970, graduated from the Institute of Political Studies in Strasbourg, and earned a DEA (Diploma of Advanced Studies) in economics the following year. He received his doctorate in economics in 1974. He served as an assistant professor and then as a lecturer in marketing and strategy at Paris 1 from 1971 to 1981, and was also a lecturer at HEC and a consultant to the National Accounting Council, before becoming its vice-president.

He became an associate professor in management sciences in 1979 and taught at the University of Poitiers. He directed the IAE (Institute of Business Administration) of Poitiers from 1981 to 1988. He was a professor at the University of Paris-Val-de-Marne from 1988 to 1990, during which time he presided over the national association of IAE.

From 1990 to 2004, Jean-Pierre Helfer was successively a professor at Paris 1 and the director of the IAE of Paris. He presided over the Commission for the Evaluation of Management Training and Diplomas (CEFDG), known as the “Helfer Commission”, for the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry and the Ministry of National Education. He also chaired the diversity commission of the CGE (Conference of Grandes Écoles) since the start of the 2009 academic year.

As for hobbies, he is passionate about sport fishing and golf.

Distinctions: Knight of the Legion of Honor and honorary doctor of the universities of economics of Minsk and of economics and international trade of Beijing.
