Jean-Marc Sylvestre was born on October 29, 1946, in Alençon. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate in economics from Paris-Dauphine University, he became a professor at the University of Caen.

In 1973, he began his career as a journalist, writing for L’Expansion, then for Management magazine and La Vie Française. Captivated by his style and expertise, Le Nouvel Économiste hired him as editor-in-chief, a path later followed by Le Quotidien de Paris. Starting in 1986, Jean-Marc Sylvestre moved into the world of television and radio. He was an editorialist on France Inter from 1986 to 2008, providing an economic commentary every morning at 7:20 for 22 years. That same year, he also began working on La Cinq as an economic commentator. When La Cinq ceased operations in 1993, Etienne Mougeotte and Patrick Le Lay chose to recruit him. He took charge of economic and social news at TF1. In 1994, he participated in the creation of LCI and hosted the weekly show Décideur. Between September 1997 and July 2010, he also hosted Le Club de l’économie on TF1. In July 2008, he was appointed deputy director of news at TF1 and LCI, responsible for economic and social news. In 2008, the year of the crisis, Jean-Marc Sylvestre was named the best journalist of the year by the jury of Paris-Dauphine University. His most recognized qualities are pedagogy and the ability to analyze and explain the most complex economic situations. In July 2010, he left the TF1 group to develop other activities in the media, publishing, academia, and business. Since then, he has been seen on I-Télé every Sunday in “Les clés de l’éco” where he hosts “those who shape the economic news of the week.” At the same time, he embarked on an internet venture by developing his blog on economic and political news with a strong emphasis on business. Throughout his career, Jean-Marc Sylvestre has written extensively. His numerous books have earned him significant recognition among the French public, particularly his last three works on the crisis: Petites leçons d’économie à la portée de tous, La France piégée, and Le roman vrai de la crise financière – in collaboration with Olivier Pastré – the latter having won the Turgot Prize in 2009.
