Born in 1957 in Aix en Provence, Jean-Marc Borello began his career as a specialized educator in a reception center for young delinquents. In 1981, he was appointed advisor to the Interministerial Mission for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction, then held various positions in ministerial offices. He discovered "traditional" entrepreneurship in 1987 and led a group of SMEs for 10 years. In 1997, he decided to dedicate himself full-time to the Group.

About Jean-Marc Borello

Born in 1957 in Aix en Provence, Jean-Marc Borello began his career as a specialized educator in a reception center for young delinquents.

In 1981, he was appointed advisor to the Interministerial Mission for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction, then held various positions in ministerial offices.

He discovered “traditional” entrepreneurship in 1987 and led a group of SMEs for 10 years.

In 1997, he decided to dedicate himself full-time to Groupe SOS, which he had founded the first associations for in 1984, on a voluntary basis. Groupe SOS is now France’s leading social enterprise, bringing together 10,000 employees and over 280 establishments spread across 18 regions in mainland France, French Guiana, Mayotte, and Réunion. Its annual budget amounts to 560 million euros. In 2011, the actions of the various entities of Groupe SOS had an impact on over 1 million people. Among them, more than 250,000 were supported, cared for, or housed.

Jean-Marc Borello was appointed Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor in 2000.

He is also a lecturer at Sciences Po Paris, a member of the High Council for Social Economy, the Director of publication for Interdépendances, the Journal of AIDS, and Respect magazine, and finally, President of the Movement of Social Entrepreneurs since its creation in 2010.
