Madame Dan Ferrand-Bechmann, Doctor of Advanced Studies in Sociology and State Doctorate from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris, Emeritus Professor at the University of Paris 8, has been teaching since 1971. She is the Secretary General of CESOL (Center for Studies on Social Solidarity). She has served as the President of the French Sociological Association.
Her research has focused on social and urban systems, as well as on associations and their volunteers, and particularly on informal education. Responsible for comparative projects in Europe and North America, she has been invited to many countries and has conducted extensive research in Réunion and Polynesia.
