Cesar Zuiderwijk has been playing with Golden Earring since 1971, during which he completed 12 tours in the U.S. He has played with bands such as Santana, Rush, and The Who. Highlight: Radar Love reached number 1 worldwide, and high rankings for Twilight Zone and When the Lady Smiles.
With the Earring, he received the Export Award twice, the Edison Award twice, and the Golden Harp. In 1992, he organized the historic concert Duizend drummers on the Maas in Rotterdam during the Harbor Days. That same weekend, the Earring recorded the acoustic album The Naked Truth, after which they began performing in theaters.
In that same year, he also opened a music school; Musicstation, with locations in The Hague and Rotterdam. In the year 2000, when the Earring took a sabbatical year, he performed the program Alle gekheid met een stokje (together with Percossa) in 75 theaters. He relates everything to drums.
For example, there is an inflatable drum set 5 meters high, an electronic jacket, and a hot air balloon in the shape of a drum, with a basket underneath where drummers can play. In 2006, he was awarded a Duiveltje, the prize for the best pop musician, awarded by the Dutch Pop Institute.
In 2008, he received the Culture Prize of The Hague. The amount received was used for music education for people with intellectual disabilities in The Hague.
Cesar now also performs solo in various theaters in the Netherlands. Previously with his solo theater tour, called Slagdroom, and starting in February 2010, he will begin his new solo program, called Drumbonen en kaneelstokken.
During his workshop, he will address why we are usually right- or left-handed. Why can people immediately play drums together? Why does the sound of drums resonate so quickly? Everyone has a sense of rhythm. During the workshop, people can drum and play on drums and percussion instruments brought by Cesar. He himself will play and solo on his own drum set. The number of active participants can range from 10 to several hundreds.
