Tim Goudriaan (LL.M.) operates as an AI advisor and trainer at the intersection of technology and the rule of law. As a thought leader and speaker, he connects technological innovation with legal practice. As co-founder of AI-Advies & Training, he leverages more than 4,000 hours of practical experience with generative AI in hundreds of organizations: from industry associations to large telecom companies, from UMCs to Sdu, and from the Bar Association to TNO.
With his team (20+ strong), he trains lawyers, judges, notaries, legal professionals, and policymakers in effective, responsible, and strategic AI use. Central to this is an optimistic yet realistic approach: engaging with AI practically and pragmatically is not only a choice but also a legal obligation and professional responsibility.
Tim’s contributions focus on the interaction between AI and the fundamental principles of our democracy. Classical safeguards such as transparency, separation of powers, and legal protection must be translated into the AI era. But who guarantees this? Will democratic control remain possible when algorithms decide on benefits, enforcement, and justice?
Stop talking about AI, learn to talk with it.
While the judiciary is still largely engaged in discussions around ethics and regulation, current AI models perform at the level of judges and lawyers. Who or what will become the next generation of guardians of the democratic rule of law? How do we deal with an unevenly distributed future that is already here? We must write the rules for a democratic rule of law in the AI era now.
