Originally from Martinique, Sylvain Wiltord was born in 1974 in Neuilly-sur-Marne. A French footballer, originally a forward, he was often called upon in his career to play as a right attacking midfielder. Sylvain Wiltord began his professional football career at the training center of Stade Rennais. Following the Atlanta Olympic Games, he joined Girondins de Bordeaux with whom he won his first title as Champion of France and top scorer of the French Championship in 1999.
He was selected for the French national team for the European Nations Championship in the Netherlands in 2000. At the end of an incredible competition, he clinched the title of European Champion by scoring the equalizing goal against Italy in the 94th minute of play during the final.
Adorned with this title, he signed with Arsenal where he played for 4 seasons. He played 175 matches with the Gunners, with whom he won two English Premier League titles (2002 and 2004) and two FA Cups (2002 and 2003). At the end of his contract in 2004, he decided to return to France, to Olympique Lyonnais, where he participated in winning three consecutive French Championship titles (2005, 2006, and 2007). Following these numerous titles, Sylvain Wiltord returned to his training club Stade Rennais, then Olympique de Marseille, FC Metz, and since 2011, FC Nantes Atlantiques.
A player for the French national team from 2000 to 2006, he earned 92 caps and scored twenty-six goals with Les Bleus. Besides his European Champion title, he also won the Confederations Cup in 2001 and 2003 and was a finalist in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Committed and involved, Sylvain Wiltord regularly participates in charitable events such as exhibition matches organized by his friend Zinedine Zidane for the ELA association (European Association against Leukodystrophies) or for the association against Leukemia.
