Suzanne Spliethoff is a chairperson, reporter, presenter, and actress. In addition to her theater training, she completed her studies in Biomedical Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and has since become a sought-after chairperson for universities, healthcare institutions, and pharmaceutical companies.
Since 2022, Suzanne has been seen weekly as a reporter for 112 Vandaag on RTL5 and previously as a presenter on a lifestyle program on RTL4. Additionally, Suzanne presented for over 12 years at Emma TV, the TV station of the Emma Children’s Hospital/Amsterdam UMC. Here, she hosted celebrities weekly and created live television with the young patients to help them forget about their illness for a while. When the COVID-19 crisis began in early 2020 and large events transitioned to livestreams and webinars, her extensive experience as a television presenter proved invaluable. Live television, teleprompter, multi-camera direction, improvisation, interviewing, camera techniques: she did it weekly. Suzanne effortlessly transitioned from being a chairperson on stage to a chairperson and moderator for online and hybrid events.
Due to her medical background and her work as an editor for medical journals, she was particularly in demand for events on healthcare and science. She has presented numerous staff meetings and events for the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, hosted webinars on dementia and the Zika virus for CZ, and served as a chairperson for organizations such as ZonMw, Pfizer, MedicInfo, NVM-dental hygienists, and various universities.
However, she is not only active in the world of Cure & Care; she has also been a chairperson for American Express, QuestionMark, the development organization Red een Kind, Fudura, Social Marketing Day, the Energy Fair, and has presented annually at the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam.
Her fascination with science is also well utilized as an actress and business leader of Het Acteursgenootschap. This theater company performs plays on topics such as integrity within research, ethical dilemmas, and transgressive behavior in the workplace. They do this for universities, scientific institutes, and ministries both domestically and internationally. They have performed at events such as The World Conference on Research Integrity, The European Gender Summit, and for the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers (Eurodoc). All performances are followed by an interactive discussion with the audience to make difficult topics open for discussion. Additionally, Het Acteursgenootschap developed an e-learning course on social safety in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam. They also provide theatrical interludes and opening acts during (scientific) conferences.
Due to her broad interest and expertise, she quickly delves into new topics and does not shy away from complex matters. As a chairperson, Suzanne likes to contribute ideas about content, various discussion formats, and optimal interaction with the (online) audience. In preparation, she conducts preliminary discussions with all speakers and panel members who will appear on stage or at the talk show table. Together, they determine how best to engage with the audience. During the event, she adjusts as needed and, with her theater background, excels in improvisation. Additionally, Suzanne’s sparkling personality puts everyone at ease, and she quickly gets to the heart of what someone means.
