1. Polarisation & collaboration

Why is collaboration so difficult? Why do different factions so often arise, both in societal debates and in the workplace, each convinced that they hold the truth? And most importantly: how can we transcend these divisions?

2. Science & fake news

Vaccinations, climate warming, GMOs, …. Why are there so many people who no longer trust science? And how can you convince these people?

3. Cognitive biases

We like to think that we are rational beings, but is that really the case? In this lecture, I discuss the many pitfalls of our thinking. I also like to offer this lecture in quiz form: I start my lecture with a short quiz (20 minutes). Afterwards, I explain why so many participants missed the mark.

4. Blinded by metrics

Metrics, from poverty figures to KPIs, are certainly useful. But by focusing on what can be measured, we often forget what cannot be easily reduced to a number.

5. Topics in preparation

Big Pharma: Lifesavers or “turning disease into profit“?
