Roberto Flören is the first person in the Netherlands to be appointed as a professor of family business.
Prof. Dr. Roberto Flören is affiliated with Nyenrode Business University as a professor of Family Businesses and Business Transfer. He was born and raised in a family business and has experienced succession in his own family business. Since 1992, he has been responsible for the research program on family businesses at Nyenrode. He is also the academic director of the Private Wealth Management Program at Nyenrode. His research focuses on the dynamics of family businesses, business transfer, and good governance. He has numerous (international) publications and lectures on family businesses to his name.
As an active member of the Nyenrode Center for Entrepreneurship, Governance, and Stewardship, he teaches family businesses in a large number of executive programs, including the Private Wealth Management Programme, the New Board Program, and the Supervisory Board Cycle. Moreover, he was head of the faculty from 2011 to 2016. Roberto obtained his bachelor’s degree from Nyenrode Business University and his MBA from the University of Florida. His dissertation, Crown Princes in the Clay, addresses succession issues in the succession of family businesses.
He is the chairman of the Stichting Administratiekantoor RUCO associated with Gulpener (brewery in Gulpen). From 2008 to 2019, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Breman (installation) in Genemuiden, from 2015 to 2020 chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kwetters (eggs) in Veen, and from 2008 to 2024 chairman of the Supervisory Board of Maan Group (adhesive technology) in Raalte.
