Robert Pfaller is an internationally renowned Austrian philosopher and author. After guest professorships in Chicago, Berlin, Zurich, and Strasbourg, he was a professor of philosophy and cultural studies at the University of Art and Industrial Design Linz as well as at the Technical University of Vienna. Since 2009, he has been teaching philosophy at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Pfaller sees today’s neoliberal culture – on the side of the masses – as characterized by avoidance of pleasure and asceticism. He perceives a loss in the present of the subjects’ ability to adequately perceive their interests – instead of the objects themselves, renunciation is desired: “We don’t have a Porsche, and that’s a good thing.”
In addition to other publications, Pfaller gained particular attention for his study ‘What is Worth Living For: Elements of Materialist Philosophy’ (2011).
Robert Pfaller is the founder of the initiative Adults for Adults.
