Reni de Boer participated in the Miss election in June 2007. This is a live television show in which girls with disabilities compete for the title of Miss Netherlands 2007. Reni won the election and thus became Ambassador Unlimited Netherlands. In this role, she raised awareness for people with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses for a year. Her main focus during this year has been: No favors, but rights!
Reni was born in 1980 in Scheveningen. At the age of seventeen, she became ill, and in 2004, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS is a disease of the brain and central nervous system. In Reni, the disease manifests as a lack of energy and some other issues, including difficulty walking, which is why she uses a wheelchair. She believes this is no reason not to participate in society or contribute to it. Reni is of the opinion that society is still too inaccessible for people with disabilities, and that was one of her reasons for participating in the Miss election. Before she participated in the Miss election, Reni studied Art History at Leiden University and Technical Public Administration at Delft University of Technology for several years.
During her year as Ambassador Unlimited Netherlands, Reni made various television appearances (including on Jensen, De zomer draait door, Eenvandaag) and gave many interviews. She also presented the student tour, gave lectures, participated in debate panels, and was a host. Reni is a highly motivated speaker and encourages people to think about diversity in society and business. To look at possibilities and not impossibilities.
