Mimoun Oaissa is an actor, filmmaker, and television personality who has garnered much admiration for the way he created his own career. He is known for his quirky and often humorous perspective on life. His fascination with film, growth, and society runs like a common thread through his life.
Friends and foes declared Mimoun crazy when he attempted to create a feature film with a leading role for himself. But together with a filmmaker friend, he succeeded in producing Shouf Shouf Habibi!, a film that became both commercially and artistically successful. This tragicomedy about growing up between two cultures in the big city also resonated abroad and was showcased at numerous festivals and sold to many countries.
To the general public, it seemed as if success came out of nowhere, but insiders in the theater and film world already knew that Mimoun was overflowing with ambition and did not give up easily. He had asked his great idol, top actor Pierre Bokma, so many times to teach him that Bokma eventually conceded. This even resulted in Mimoun being able to work with Toneelgroep Amsterdam after his training at the drama school, alongside his idol.
After the success of Shouf Shouf Habibi!, the hit film: Het Schnitzelparadijs followed, in which Mimoun also played a significant role and wrote his own dialogues. He also starred, alongside Oscar winner Marisa Tomei, in the lead role in Amsterdam, and in a short film by the acclaimed writer Hanif Kureishi for British Channel 4.
However, Mimoun did not want to limit himself to acting and sought a way to also engage with his other interests. He began conducting empowerment training for high school students. But his passions for acting, diversity, and growth came together perfectly when he – together with his former drama school mentor – founded De Acteerschool Rotterdam. In this HBO program, actors from urban backgrounds are trained, and constant efforts are made to make the learning processes more efficient and effective.
Recently, he played a role in the English-language The Devils Double and presented a live music evening broadcast by NPS from Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Mimoun has received various nominations and awards for his acting work. Below is a selection of the most important nominations and awards:
