Mike Boddé is a musician and theater maker. You may know him from Kopspijkers and Podium Klassiek. He sees parallels between music and sports, business, and politics.
Mike Boddé is a musician and theater maker. After finishing his secondary education, he left for the United States where he studied jazz piano for a year. Upon his return, he studied Chinese in Leiden, which he completed in 1995. Together with his classmate Thomas van Luyn, he formed the duo Mike & Thomas in 1991. With him, he ventured into theater. Boddé created a total of twenty-five theater programs with van Luyn, but also with Kees Torn, Klaas van der Eerden, Onno Innemee, Hadewych Minis, Beatrice van der Poel, Jelka van Houten, and others.
On television, Boddé gained fame as one of the cabaret artists on the popular Kopspijkers. He later created the cult hit ‘The Mike and Thomas Show’ with Thomas van Luyn. Furthermore, he wrote the bestseller Pil, and then four more books, and produced numerous CDs that all did not sell. Fortunately, he was able to express himself in the popular TV program Podium Witteman. In this show, he played piano and gave short lectures on various musical topics. Additionally, he enjoys making delicious Chinese chicken dishes and pastas that are usually inedible.
As a musician, he has a broad interest. He loves classical, pop, and jazz; in fact, he enjoys almost all kinds of music. He certainly has a clear preference for improvisation, regardless of the genre. He also teaches this skill at the Utrecht Conservatory and during private lessons from home.
Furthermore, he tries to contribute to the topic of mental health, aiming to help remove the taboos that still exist around this theme. He himself suffered from severe depression for many years, so he knows all too well what it is like to be completely down. Fortunately, he is doing excellently nowadays, as he has a reliable medication that keeps him stable.
