Michael Martin is a photographer, speaker, adventurer, and graduate geographer. For over 30 years, he has been reporting in books, lectures, television films, and exhibitions about his travels in the deserts of the Earth.
Michael Martin has specialized in deserts from the very beginning and has undertaken nearly 200 trips to almost all deserts on Earth. He has published about 30 photo books and books, given nearly 2000 lectures, and produced several television films. His books have been translated into seven languages, and the films and lectures have reached a global audience of millions.
His publications are characterized by fascinating photography, solid geographical knowledge, and exciting stories. On stage, Michael Martin also benefits from his rhetorical talent. His works have been awarded numerous prizes, including a medal of honor from the Royal Geographic Society.
His most important lectures and books are titled “The Deserts of Africa” and “The Deserts of the Earth,” which are also accompanied by exhibitions and a TV series. Michael Martin has also achieved great success with his travel biography “30 Years of Adventure,” which impressively shows his journey from a young stargazer who rode a moped into the desert to the world’s most renowned desert photographer. The concurrently released lecture fills large lecture halls across the country.
At the same time, he began working on his current project, which for the first time in the history of geography compares the polar regions in the Arctic and Antarctica with the dry deserts. It is titled “Adventure Desert – Fascination Ice.” For this, Michael Martin undertook a total of 34 trips to the most remote areas of our planet between 2009 and 2013, including to the North Pole and the South Pole. Currently, Martin is busy creating an extraordinary photo book, lecture, and television film on this topic. The joint release date is set for autumn 2015.
