Markus Gabriel is a German philosopher. He teaches epistemology, philosophy of modernity, and contemporary philosophy at the University of Bonn and is the youngest philosophy professor in Germany. Gabriel studied philosophy, classical philology, modern German literary studies, and German studies in Hagen, Bonn, and Heidelberg. He earned his doctorate in 2005 on the late philosophy of Schelling. Subsequently, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Lisbon and from 2006 to 2008, he served as a temporary academic advisor in Heidelberg.

About Markus Gabriel

Markus Gabriel is a German philosopher. He teaches epistemology, philosophy of modernity, and contemporary philosophy at the University of Bonn and is the youngest philosophy professor in Germany.

Gabriel studied philosophy, classical philology, modern German literary studies, and German studies in Hagen, Bonn, and Heidelberg. He earned his doctorate in 2005 on the late philosophy of Schelling. Subsequently, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Lisbon and from 2006 to 2008, he served as a temporary academic advisor in Heidelberg. In 2008, Gabriel qualified as a professor in Heidelberg with a thesis on “Skepticism and Idealism in Antiquity.” The following year, he was an assistant professor at the Department of Philosophy at the New School for Social Research in New York City. Since 2009, Gabriel has held the chair in epistemology/philosophy of modernity and contemporary philosophy at the University of Bonn.

Since 2012, Gabriel has also been the director of the International Center for Philosophy and deputy director at the Centre for Advanced Study Käte Hamburger Kolleg “Law as Culture,” also at the University of Bonn.

His recently published, highly acclaimed new book is titled “Why the World Does Not Exist” and addresses the great questions of humanity in a clever and humorous way.
