Marc Luyckx Ghisi studied mathematics, philosophy, and theology. After a journey that took him to Italy, Brazil, and the U.S., he served for nearly ten years as an advisor to Presidents Delors and Santer at the “Foresight Unit” of the European Commission in Brussels from 1990 to 1999. He focused on the meaning of European construction and its ethical, cultural, religious, economic, and political dimensions in the context of societal change. He has published in French, English, Italian, and German. He is now Vice President of the Cotrugli Business Academy in Zagreb, Croatia, and Vice President of the International Council of Auroville in South India. Marc Luyckx has published a book titled “Emergence of a New World – Values, Visions, Economy, Politics” where he explains that we are experiencing a rapid and profound societal change because modern rationality, the patriarchal approach, and industrial capitalism are no longer able to provide a satisfactory response to the problems of our collective survival and that of the environment, nor to the social and demographic issues of our world at the beginning of the 21st century. They are already outdated as they no longer make sense: they lead to death. Global civil society is already seeking elsewhere, even though those in power strive to convince it that there is no alternative. Some are experiencing a deep re-enchantment, a reconciliation of body-heart-soul. In this group of 25% of European and American citizens, 66% are women. These ongoing changes touch on the deepest aspects of our lives such as the relationship between men and women, the sacred, truth, the status of reason and science, time, space, and happiness. At the same time, it is the underground architecture of modernity that is dissolving. It is normal for citizens to feel anxiety. At a less profound but equally important level, the information society acts like a turbo that accelerates and deepens these changes. By altering the very heart of capitalist and communist logic, it surpasses them and leads us into a logic that proves to be increasingly different, where the advantages and dangers will not necessarily be those we perceive today. The political and economic mutation is indeed at the core of his approach. He shows that the EU is a new economic paradigm of non-violence among its Member States. This new political paradigm is increasingly inspiring for other governments around the world, such as the BRICS today. He also shows that the Lisbon Strategy was conceived by the Portuguese government in March 2010 as a major economic paradigm shift towards a gift economy and non-violence. Unfortunately, the “new wine” has been put back into the “old industrial and ultra-liberal wineskins.” Thus, a relative failure.
