About Marc Halévy

Marc Halévy is a complexity scientist (formerly a researcher with Nobel Prize winner Ilya Prigogine) and a philosopher of spirituality. For thirty-five years, he has been developing theories, models, and methods for complex processes and applying them to human socioeconomic systems, particularly in the context of his renowned futurist activities. He has published around forty books and hundreds of articles. He gives numerous seminars and many conferences.

His four conference themes are:

1. “Complexity is not complication”: our human world is experiencing an unprecedented leap in complexity that explains many aspects of current turmoil. But what is complexity? How does the study of complex systems and processes require different methods than Cartesian ones? What new philosophical hypotheses does it impose regarding time, memory, meaning, and intention?

2. “Resurgence of spiritualities”: The waning Modernity imposes the realization of the failure of all materialisms. Material abundance is accompanied by great spiritual poverty. Established religions seem to be dwindling in favor of more individualized, syncretic, and exotic spiritualities. Overall, theistic religions are giving way to more pantheistic, paganistic, and monistic spiritualities. Is God becoming immanent?

3. “Paradigmatic mutation”: The change in economic logic that we are experiencing, of which the current crises and turbulence are merely apparent manifestations, can be understood by noting that such bifurcations occur approximately every 500 years. The logic of the market economy that we inherited from the Renaissance is facing four major breaks (ecological, digital, cybernetic, and cultural) that the emerging new economic logic will have to address. Four key concepts are thus emerging that will shape the foundations of tomorrow’s economy and society.

4. “Towards new values”: Our time is questioning the societal values we inherited from the Enlightenment. Human rights, democratism, egalitarianism, progressivism, solidarism, economism, statism, centralism, etc. … All of this has reached its limits. Other pillars will need to be built to support the new era that is beginning.
