Photographer and elite athlete, member of the French Taekwondo team, Mamedy Doucara is an artist with an atypical profile.
In 2005, he began self-taught photography during a forced sports recovery. Talented, he developed his own style and quickly gained recognition in the field of sports photography. In just a few years, while still pursuing his career as an elite athlete, he has gained a reputation that has led him today to various artistic projects.
Equally comfortable in black and white as in color, he succeeds in the difficult task of capturing the intimate character of what he photographs. Mamedy Doucara seeks the private, a raw intimacy, almost animalistic, of his models, which he reveals through a composition that is often simple yet strikingly precise. Through appropriate staging, he enhances the expressiveness of the gazes to reveal their strength.
The photographs of Mamedy Doucara each possess a delightful blend of power and softness, much like the photographer he is, an elite fighter and self-taught artist.
Furthermore, Mamedy Doucara is a French elite athlete, world champion in taekwondo in 2001.
He began at the age of 7 in his father Thieman Doucara’s club. He competes in the -80 kg category and is currently training at INSEP. World champion in 2001, Mamedy aims for Olympic gold at the Rio 2016 Games.
