Olympic windsurf champion of Tokyo 2021 and World Champion RSX in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Kiran, son of a Surinamese father and Dutch mother, the Olympic champion of Tokyo 2021 and World Champion RSX in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Kiran caught the windsurfing bug in Bonaire, where he lived for three years, when he received a surfing lesson as a gift for his 9th birthday. After obtaining his high school diploma, he trained with Olympic Champion Dorian van Rijsselberghe. During numerous races and competitions, the tall, strong Kiran often came close to the world top, especially excelling in strong winds, making it hard for competitors to keep up. In February 2016, he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Israel, and in the summer of 2018, he became the world’s second-best at the World Championships in Denmark. On September 28, 2019, he became world champion for the first time in Italy, and on February 29, 2020, for the second time! More importantly, Kiran secured the only Dutch Olympic ticket.
In his scarce free time, Kiran can be found on the Scheveningen beach. He enjoys various action sports; when he’s not on his board, he engages in kitesurfing, surfing, paddle boarding, and mountain biking. These activities all contribute to his fitness and performance on the RSX board!
Kiran trained and traveled with Dorian van Rijsselberghe. The two top athletes developed their own qualification trajectory in collaboration with their coach. This ensures they can stay together as long as possible to learn from each other on the way to the next Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021.
Kiran is an ambassador for MissieH2, trying to raise awareness for the upcoming energy transition and the possibilities hydrogen offers to Dutch consumers. He is also committed to Dutch Wavemakers, an organization that promotes a cleaner and sustainable environment through information and education among younger opinion leaders.
