Joris Krijger was the first official AI ethicist in the Netherlands. He has been conducting practical and academic research for nearly ten years on how we as a society can address the complex ethical challenges surrounding AI. He wrote about this in 'Onze Kunstmatige Toekomst', which was nominated for the National AI Award and the Socrates Cup 2026 as one of the most urgent philosophical books of the year. As a national expert, he regularly speaks in the media about how we can make the artificial future a humane future.

About Joris Krijger

Joris Krijger is a philosopher of technology and the first official AI ethicist in the Netherlands. He is the author of Onze Kunstmatige Toekomst (2025), which was nominated for the Socrates Cup 2026. In his work, Joris explores how we can transform the artificial future into a humane future.

He studied Philosophy, Psychology, and Film & Literature (summa cum laude) in Glasgow, Buenos Aires, and at Leiden University, and received a national internet thesis award for his master’s thesis on ethics, technology, and finance. This award gave him the opportunity to work as an ethics and AI specialist at ASN Bank and as a PhD candidate in Ethics & AI at Erasmus University Rotterdam. During this period, he published various scientific articles on AI ethics and became a Founding Editorial Board Member of the AI & Ethics Journal by Nature Springer. As a national expert, Krijger is invited by the media and the House of Representatives to inspire and advise on critical decisions regarding the use of AI.
