Jean-Marie began his career in 1973 as a journalist at ORTF, then at the FR3 office in New Caledonia. Four years later, he joined the newspaper Le Monde as a writer in the political department, where he successively became head of the political department in 1983 and editor-in-chief in 1990. He continues to rise through the ranks within the newspaper. In 1991, he became deputy to the editorial director; in 1994, he was elected director of the newspaper Le Monde; in 1996, he became president of the Supervisory Board of Le Monde Diplomatique; from 2000 to 2003, he was President of Le Monde Interactif; from 2000 to 2005, he was President of the Supervisory Board of the group Les journaux du Midi; and in 2001, he became president of the management board of the Le Monde group. At the same time, he hosts the weekly show on France Culture “La rumeur du monde” and collaborates with the weekly magazine “Challenges”. He left Le Monde in 2007 and founded the company JMCmedia. Jean-Marie Colombani is also a commentator on France Inter as well as for various foreign newspapers including “El País” (Spain) and “To Vima” (Greece). He hosts the show “Jean-Marie Colombani invites…” on the Public Sénat channel. He is the author of about fifteen essays dedicated to French political life, particularly on successive presidents of the Republic.
